Tasting Notes
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2006 - Silver Medal

Colour: Deep ruby red.

Bouquet: This complex nose opens with intense raspberries and blackcurrant backed up by cedar notes and pencil shavings. A line of toffee, jasmine and burnt butter sage contributes to the complexity of the nose.

Palate: Black fruit flavours are prevalent, a delightful richness likened to toffee. Toasted and vanilla flavours are present and will mellow over the next year. Great intensity experienced on the front and mid-palates. The elegant tannin structures of the wine contribute to the considerable length of flavour.

Impression: Keeping in the style of the very successful 2003 this wine is a unique blend of six varietals. This wine is showing a beautiful balance between accessibility and maturation potential.
Ageing Potential
5-10 years, following year of harvest, peaking after 8 years.
Blend Information
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Shiraz, 12% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec
In The Vineyard
Climate:
Mediterranean with the rainfall +/-650mm per annum, the EE vineyards are located high up on the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. This contribution imparts warmer fruit flavours to the wine. In summer, the vineyards' close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean result in cool sea breezes that keeps temperatures lower, extending the ripening period.
The 2004 Vintage started very dry and no rain was recorded in February. Fortunately the rain came in the beginning of March. This gave the vineyard the required boost to ripen the crop properly and also brought cooler weather.

Soil:
Top formation is a Scully formation, containing components of Oak leaf and Clay. Deeper in the soil there is a considerable amount of granite.
